About

The CLTS Monitoring System is developed primarily to support offline / online data entry at the lowest administrative unit level,
and, improve reporting along multiple gateways through simple visual elements

Background

Kenya initiated the Open Defecation Free (ODF) Rural Kenya Campaign in May 2011, adopting Community Led Sanitation (CLTS) as the core strategy to achieve the objective.

A web based Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) system was developed in the first phase of this process and handed over to the Ministry of Health with the support of SNV through a contracted agency.

UNICEF then engaged Advanced Geospatial Solutions (AGS) to enhance the capacity of the M&E System, and, make it more flexible & user friendly.

Philosophy

It is key that we take the CLTS data entry & dissemination process to the next level in order
to achieve the Kenya ODF mission

Quote
The Cabinet Secretary has asked the Division of Environmental Health (DEH) to revise the 2020 campaign and instead have Kenya ODF by 2017.
With proper monitoring, this is feasible and tenable! Dr. James Mwitari, Deputy Director, DEH

Status

Achieving ODF claim status essentially means that a community has declared that all its families have stopped defecating in the open & are now using new or rehabilitated toilets.
Below is an up to date graphical presentation of various counties on the status of vijiji that have reached the ODF claim status followed by a full status update.
